Veteran’s Day Program


                        Our president, Larry D. Fox, Capt., USAF (Ret) gave a program about Veteran’s Day
                 for our November 18, 2018 meeting. Retired USAF Captain Fox’s presentation included a
                 brief history of Veteran’s Day,  and his own experiences after returned from a tour of duty in
                 Vietnam.

                        SMHS members (left to right) Jim Shular, Larry D. Fox, Leon Myers, and Lew Bolton
                 reminisced  and  shared  stories.  Larry  and  Jim  talked  about  the  history  of  Sevier  County
                 including John Sevier and how the settlement of White Oak Flats was renamed Gatlinburg.
                 Leon told stories about Cades Cove including how one angry resident made plans to burn the
                 mountains down when forced to leave when the Government took his land for the Park. Lew
                 Bolton closed the program with stories about Wiley Oakley, his family, and their Christmas
